Microfibrillated cellulose from Argania spinosa shells as sustainable solid particles for O/W Pickering emulsions

چکیده
Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) from Argan (Argania spinosa) shells was prepared by chemical purification of cellulose, then mechanical disintegration via high pressure homogenization performed to isolate fibrils cellulose. Chemical characterization raw argan shell (AS-R), purified (AS-C), and MFC (AS-MFC) included FT-IR, XRD NMR. Morphological AS-MFC assessed using TEM. Next, the use as oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions stabilizer investigated. The particle concentration observed affect long-term stability emulsions; concentrations (0.5–1 % w/w) resulted in that were thermodynamically stable during 15 days storage, which demonstrated droplet’s size evolution. suitable oil for a maximum volume emulsion 1 w/w demonstrated. results show is able stabilize 70 MCT without visual phase separation. Finally, CLSM shows adsorption at oil-water interface formation 3D network surrounding droplets, confirming Pickering stabilization.

Colloidosomes from Peroxidized Pickering Emulsions
A new approach to synthesis of cross-linked colloidosomes (microcapsules with a shell from colloidal particles) was developed on the basis of a peroxidized Pickering emulsion (an emulsion stabilized exclusively by peroxidized colloidal particles). Peroxidized latex particles were employed to ensure formation of Pickering emulsion. Free radical polymerization was used to convert droplets of a pe...
متن کاملThermodynamically stable pickering emulsions.
We show that under appropriate conditions, mixtures of oil, water, and nanoparticles form thermodynamically stable oil-in-water emulsions with monodisperse droplet diameters in the range of 30-150 nm. This observation challenges current wisdom that so-called Pickering emulsions are at most metastable and points to a new class of mesoscopic equilibrium structures. Thermodynamic stability is demo...
متن کاملBiomimetic Aerogels from Microfibrillated Cellulose and Xyloglucan
Aerogels refer to a new class of materials holding air in their structure. They are highly porous solids having a large inner surface area. They are extremely light, low heat conductive, and high sound absorbent materials. Therefore, aerogels have excellent performance in applications such as heat insulators, particle filters, particle trappers, and catalyst carriers 1 . Aerogels are prepared s...
متن کاملEmulsions stabilised by whey protein microgel particles: towards food-grade Pickering emulsions.
We have investigated a new class of food-grade particles, whey protein microgels, as stabilisers of triglyceride-water emulsions. The sub-micron particles stabilized oil-in-water emulsions at all pH with and without salt. All emulsions creamed but exhibited exceptional resistance to coalescence. Clear correlations exist between the properties of the microgels in aqueous dispersion and the resul...
